Hi, my name is Noelle N. I’m 15 years-old, and I am allergic to dairy, peanuts, and tree nuts. I am a member of the Teen Advisory Group (TAG) for FARE, and a staff writer for the Just Allergy Things magazine.
Whether you are a newcomer to food allergies or a veteran like me, this article will help you find food brands that are either safe from common food allergens, made for food allergies, or brands I have come across that have worked for me! Over the years, I have found so many brands that have worked tremendously well for my food allergies and I am still finding more! This list definitely does not cover all the food-allergy friendly brands out there, but it includes some of my favorites, ones that I want to try or ones that I think many people may not know about! Enjoy!
*Disclaimer: A lot of these brands may not accommodate everyone’s food allergies. I advise reading the list of ingredients thoroughly before trying a food in order to avoid an allergic reaction. Even if the food claims to be safe, double-checking the ingredients is always another way to ensure total safety. Always have your allergy medications (EpiPen, Benadryl, AuviQ, etc.) ready when trying new foods.*
Breakfast Foods:
If you have dairy allergies or nut allergies, Ripple is the brand for you! Ripple has plant based milk, ice cream, half & half, and more! My younger sister, who doesn’t have food allergies, loves the vanilla flavored Ripple more than cow's milk!
Vans are a staple in our household because their waffles are delicious! Vans has gluten free, nut free, and dairy free waffles and pancakes. I definitely recommend Vans products if you are looking for a waffle or pancake substitute.
*Disclaimer: Vans does have some products with nuts or peanuts, so double check before consuming!*
Earth Balance butter is another staple in our household! This butter brand has plant based butter making it dairy free. There are even soy free and organic options, not to mention they have other products too!
Udis is a great gluten free brand that also has many dairy free and nut free options. They have muffins, bread, pizza crusts, and more!
Snacks/Candy:
This brand is a great allergy friendly candy/chocolate brand that has so many things to try! I would definitely check out this brand if you are having trouble finding candies or chocolate free of the top 9 allergens.
This is one of my favorite brands that is food allergy friendly, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone with food allergies! Their chocolate chips are “heavenly” plus, they have bars, chips, mixes for pancakes, brownies, etc., and more! I often use their chocolate chips when baking!
I only found this brand a few years ago, but I am so glad I did. Being allergic to dairy and all nuts has made it difficult to find bars I can have or trust but Made Good is nut free and has so many snack options from granola bars to cookies! My personal favorites are the chocolate drizzled birthday cake bars!
Safe and Fair has granola, chips, mixes, and more free from the top 9 allergens and plant based! Their overall brand, from the packaging to the website, is so aesthetically pleasing.
Desserts:
Sweet Lorens has great dairy free, gluten free, and some nut free cookies and cookie dough! I love one of the fudgy brownie cookies fresh out of the oven!
Talenti is a brand I have found more recently. They have lots of dairy free sorbet options that are nice for a hot summer day! I would 100% recommend the mango sorbet!
This is not a brand made to be food allergy safe, but over the last few years, I have found that some of Duncan Hines cake mixes are free of all of my allergens! The cakes I have had include the French Vanilla, Classic Yellow, Lemon Supreme, Devil’s Food, and Classic White. Going through their website, I’m positive there are more delicious cakes I will want to try! Just remember to substitute the egg when following the instructions if you have an egg allergy.
Katz is a brand I have been eating since I was young because lots of baked goods, especially donuts, are typically made with dairy products! Katz has delicious donuts of various types: donut holes, creme filled cakes, pies, and more. They have items that are dairy free, nut free, soy free, rice free, egg free, corn free, and gluten free!
Dinner/Lunch:
Ian’s has so many different food options: meatballs, seafood, onion rings and more, many of them being free from the top 9 allergens. I just recently found their fish sticks which are delectable! I can’t wait to try more of their food products.
Daiya is a great plant based brand for anyone allergic to dairy! They have lots of replacements for cheese, dressing, pizza, cheese cake, and more. It’s hard to have a dairy allergy because there are a lot of limitations, but Daiya helps make things a little bit less difficult!
I only recently discovered Alexia by finding their sweet potato fries! This is another brand that isn’t specifically made for food allergies but has dairy free and nut free easy dinner sides that taste superb!
These are just a few of the brands I have either found, enjoyed, or want to try soon! I hope this helps you if you are new to having food allergies or are just looking for something fresh to try out!
