As the weather gets colder and we start to layer up, fall-themed activities also come into play. However, food allergies can prevent us from partaking in activities like going on runs for autumnal foods or sharing at the table, so here are some of my food allergy-friendly ways to gear up for fall.
Scavenger Hunts
Fall brings an opportunity to search for all things fall-related. On a simple nature walk that you can go on whenever you’re outside, try looking for fall-related signs as the seasons progress and it becomes winter. Not only will a scavenger hunt get you out in nature, but it can help you spend some time with loved ones and have safe leisure. Some things to look for are:
Leaves of each color
Red or orange birds
Scarecrows
Pinecones
Spider webs
Spooky Movies
Though scavenger hunts are fun all season, try watching some spooky movies this October for Halloween! You can enjoy your favorite food-allergy-friendly treats on your own time with friends and family as you enjoy in the comfort of your home. This simple activity may seem too easy, but it’s a great way to unwind and enjoy the jump scares! One family-friendly Halloween movie I highly recommend is Frankenweenie.
Autumnal Crafts
With every fall comes a peak opportunity themed arts and crafts. Two ideas for you to try are:
Leafy wreath: One easy idea is using fall leaves to make a simple autumnal wreath. After you cut a piece of cardboard into a circle or oval, you can simply glue on the leaves to your liking to make fashionable decor.
Pressed nature cards: You can also try making DIY pressed cards by flattening leaves then sealing in tape. These also make great greetings/invitations, gearing you up for the season!
Whatever you plan to enjoy this fall, hopefully, you have a great and safe time! Until then, feel free to use these ideas to celebrate in food allergy-friendly ways!
