We’ve made it through 2024! Now, with a new year dawning, we have a chance to
reset, refresh, and discover. Here are three ways to embark on another year of
food allergy journeys together.
1. Speak up.
As with every new year with food allergies, advocacy is first and foremost key for vouching for you and staying safe. This new year let’s keep speaking up. We don’t have to go big at first, but let’s start with small steps. Advocate yourself to others and for your own good. Speaking up can be as simple as asking a friend to wash their hands after eating something ingredients on a new food to feel safe. You can also support organizations like FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) to make your voice heard. For starters, FARE’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is a great way for members 11-22 to make a difference in the food allergy community. Check out their applications to speak up on a broad scale!
2. Discover new ways to eat.
Have you ever found a brand that supports your allergies? Maybe a restaurant
that you can eat safely at? Continue this trend! A new year means new
opportunities, so keep seeking new ways to discover. You can absolutely stick
with your trusted brands and restaurants but do feel free to explore the world of
food allergy-friendly organizations. What’s even better is that you can spread the
news and broaden your horizons!
3. Be prepared.
With a new year, make sure you’re ready. Have you checked the expiry of your
Epi-Pen or AuviQ? Do you need to get some antihistamines like Claritin or
Benadryl? Do you have allergen-friendly snacks packed in case of an emergency?
Food allergies might come with a bit of extra work, but these simple steps like
checking on medication and snacks can help you stay safe and ready.
As we look into 2025, let’s not only see our food allergies as negative but find a
way for the light of new opportunities to shine!
