Festive Food Allergy Finds

It’s that time of year again. With Halloween just ending and the costumes being stored away for next year, the next big holidays are rolling around, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and more. With many of these popular holidays focusing heavily on food, those of us with food allergies can often create a feeling of being left out when there are no options we can eat. While each year I find new treats that accommodate my food allergies, this year as I walked through my local grocery store, I noticed some new options that I am excited to try. In this article, I will share a couple of tips on finding new “festive finds” for the holidays and also a few links to some I have found that you should definitely keep an eye out for!

*Disclaimer: These links are taken directly from the various websites and therefore may not include all allergen information (whether not updated or disclosed information). Read carefully and double-check before consuming food. Always keep your EpiPen or life-saving medication close by.

Finding New Treats

Here are some quick tips on finding new safe treats for the upcoming holidays!

  • Check your local grocery stores, especially their vegan or gluten-free sections. As more companies that are food allergy friendly have new holiday options, you may start seeing them in your grocery stores around this time of year.

  • Order online! If you see a product that is safe for you (hopefully you will find a lot on this list), try it out and have it sent to your doorstep!

  • Don’t be afraid to try new things. Especially with food allergies, it can be difficult and scary to try new food, even if it is safe for you. However, if it is okay with your allergist and the ingredients are all safe for you, don’t be scared to try a new safe food. Always have your EpiPen close by just in case.

  • Have fun! Shopping for new safe food is always exciting even if you don’t end up liking the food. Make it a new holiday tradition or even a family competition to go to your grocery store and find one new thing that is safe for your allergies!
